Kundalini and Gong Yoga

“The gong is the sound of Creativity itself. Out of it came all music, all sounds, and all words.” Yogi Bhajan

Preparing ourselves through Kundalini Yoga, the body becomes open and receptive to change and healing. While in this state, the sound waves of the gong induce an extended state of effortless meditation and relaxation facilitating the movement of prana throughout the body and psyche. Gong meditation releases blocks, stimulates circulation and the glandular system to a higher level of functioning. The result is a reorganization of the emotional energy and feelings that are tied into the body structure. In this way, the gong is a tool that magnifies and focuses the power of the yoga experience as every cell and fiber of your body is penetrated. Feel yourself ride the sound into the Infinite itself.

Don’t go and get it; be and allow it to come to you.” Yogi Bhajan

Yogi Bhajan often said, let things come to you, don’t hustle. This class emphasizes the basic premise that with a meditative mind, we can create what we want from the inside out. Through Kundalini Yoga exercises, we prepare the body for meditation. And through meditation we call on our spirit which is infinite. We learn to relax, let go, and let God. This class includes a 31 minute meditation.

Kundalini Yoga and Meditation

A Kundalini class begins with a short chant followed by a warm-up to stretch the spine and improve flexibility. The main work of the class is called a kriya, which is a prescribed sequence of poses that focus on a specific area of the body. Each Kundalini Yoga asana series is done in conjunction with a specific breath (pranayam) that intensifies the effects of the poses with the purpose of freeing energy in the lower body and allowing it to move upwards. The teacher typically does not make manual adjustments. The class ends with a meditation, which may be accompanied by the teacher playing a large gong, and a closing song.

Sadhana

Sadhana is a daily personal practice. In the Kundalini Yoga  tradition, it is suggested that a personal practice be done early in the  morning, ideally before sunrise! This time is the optimal time for  spiritual practice and it prepares you for the day ahead. However, a  Sadhana practice can be done at any time. Sadhana can be a few minutes  of meditation when you wake in the morning, it can be a yoga class you  attend, or it can be any spiritual practice. It is a practice of connecting to your spirit in a focused and conscious way. The Aquarian  Sadhana is practiced by Kundalini Yoga communities across the world.  Doing Sadhana in a group develops group consciousness. Please click here to learn more about Sadhana.
