Kundalini Yoga Boston

What To Expect

We teach a style of Kundalini Yoga that is based on the teachings of Yogi Bhajan and it is one of the most formalized styles of yoga currently taught throughout the world. At KYB, our public and private classes can be gentle, strenuous or just plain fat-burning intense. Each class is tailored to meet he needs of the individual or group.

A yoga kriya (sequence of postures, breath, and sound integrated to allow the manifestation of a particular state), pranayam (breath work), relaxation, and meditation are incorporated into each class. Often we will play recorded or live music and incorporate gong meditation. The typical class is about 90 minutes: 5-10 minute warm-up, 30-45 minute kriya, 5-15 minute layout, 11-31 minutes of meditation. Each class can help one become aware of much more than just the strength of the body. It helps to facilitate a change physically as well as emotionally and spiritually. Kundalini yoga is yoga for the mind, body, and spirit.

Yoga is non-competitive. You do not need to be concerned with what you can or cannot do, everybody is different. A posture that is easy one day may not be as easy the next. Listen to your body and do what you can! The most important thing is to be present and just do what is right for your body.

What is the class etiquette?

Please arrive a few minutes before class begins. You are always welcome to relax in lounge before and after the class. If you arrive just as class is beginning, enter quietly and find a place in the back of the class. We will do our best to fit you in, but late arrivals may not be accommodated. If you have injuries or health conditions, please let your teacher know.

Is yoga a religion?

Yoga is not a religion. It is a science of the breath and movement.

Should I eat before class?

It is best to practice on an empty stomach, or at least 2 1/2 hours after eating. Please drink plenty of water after class.
